Okay, so the first flakes haven’t started to fall yet. In fact, for much of the country there hasn’t even been a first frost. But if our time in the Scouts taught us anything, it’s that we should always be prepared. That’s why our very own troop of style-makers (the editorial team) cooked up this Outerwear Guide to help you negotiate the chill. This year’s picks call on our heritage of classic design and craftsmanship while using the most innovative fabrics and construction around.
Okay, so the first flakes
haven’t started to fall yet. In fact, for much of the country there hasn’t even
been a first frost. But if our time in the Scouts taught us anything, it’s that
we should always be prepared. That’s why our very own troop of style-makers
(the editorial team) cooked up this Outerwear Guide to help you negotiate the
chill. This year’s picks call on our heritage of classic design and
craftsmanship while using the most innovative fabrics and construction around.
The Waxed Cotton Field Jacket
Waxed outwear is having a
moment. This preppy favorite was long associated with British estate style—the
fabric being impervious to brambles and thorns the wearer would encounter when
hunting. Our version takes that classic design and fabric and doubles down on
comfort. It has a removable water-repellent vest that is filled with Thermore®
Ecodown®, so it is super warm and lightweight, and the British-made fabric is
treated to resist all manner of poor weather.
The Iconic Wool Peacoat
While others have done the peacoat, no one does it quite like
Brooks. This year’s version is lifted directly from our design archives, and
we’ve upgraded it to be more refined than ever. We’ve chosen a luxurious wool
from Italy’s Barberis Mill and infused it with a wind and water-resistant
membrane so you’ll stay comfortable and dry. Signature preppy elements can be
found throughout—from the diamond quilted lining to the corduroy details at the
pockets. Of course, what would a pea coat be without a bit of characteristic
nautical flair? (We’ll let the anchor-motif buttons answer that one.)
Camel Hair Polo Coat
You heard it here first: This is the season of camel hair. The plush feel and sophisticated shade of this polo coat elevate an offering we’ve had since the early 20thcentury. Today’s version is made from a super-soft Italian camel hair that is lightweight but still warm. Crafted it our signature soft construction, it is extraordinarily comfortable and less bulky than previous incarnations, which is ideal for winter layering. Over a suit or over a sweater, this coat manages functionality without sacrificing smart style.
Golden Fleece® Camel Hair Topcoat
We told you this was the season of camel hair…and it’s also
the season for rethinking the classics. This deconstructed topcoat is made in
our Massachusetts factory from an incredibly soft blend of camel hair and silk
woven in Italy. It’s half-lined and minimally constructed at the interior to
help you move easier and layer over your tailored pieces. We’re really feeling
that bold shade of red too—after all, who isn’t tired of seeing grey all
winter?
Flannel Down-Filled Wrap Coat
There’s no rule that says the blessedly functional puffer
cannot be sophisticated. That’s why we took the classic wrap coat and combined
it with the puffer for this ultra-chic design hybrid. Made in Italy from a
super-soft flannel, it is entirely warm and cozy. The oversized hood moonlights
as a shawl collar when not in use—and also adds a bit of drama to your brisk
style.
Brushed Wool Twill Peacoat
Oh peacoats, how we love thee. The women’s iteration of this timeless style is given the luxe treatment. Crafted from a wonderfully soft wool twill, woven in Italy by Loro Piana®, it’s also water-repellent for comfort in any kind of weather. The classic double-breasted silhouette is enhanced with figure-flattering seams that give the coat more shape than previous iterations.
