Using
modern technology to better understand this remarkable wool
The
secret of SaxXon® wool has long been attributed to its shape—a
“three-dimensional helical crimp”—which allows fibers to capture air, resulting
in yarn that is rounder and far lighter than other varieties. (Case in point:
cashmere offers the same warmth as SaxXon at roughly double the weight.) This
unique corkscrew-like curvature endows it with great natural stretch and
wrinkle-resistance for exceptional handling and comfort.
However,
researchers at Sydney University stumbled upon new evidence of why SaxXon is
truly one of a kind. After performing microscopic analysis, they discovered, to
their amazement, that cross sections of individual SaxXon fibers were nearly
flat (rather than round as in merino wool, cashmere and camel hair).
Astonishingly, this makes SaxXon more akin to human hair. Much the way a lock
of hair features smoothness and body, SaxXon fibers have a voluminous quality
when they’re combined, which is why SaxXon suiting and sweaters are able to
provide such warmth and softness while remaining exceptionally
lightweight. It’s no wonder why SaxXon is fast becoming a modern-day
icon.
A GUIDE TO SAXXON WOOL
EXTRAORDINARY SOFTNESS
One of the world’s softest wools, it offers the look and feel of cashmere yarn.
ULTRA LIGHTWEIGHT
Volume-to-volume, SaxXon is lighter and warmer than cashmere.
UNMATCHED RESILIENCE
SaxXon has more natural elasticity and spring than cashmere fibers.
A MICRON COMPARISON
SaxXon fibers are smaller in diameter than other wools, resulting in a finer texture.
