THE NEW RULES OF GOLF STYLE
Through the years, the sartorial code of golf has evolved—long gone are the days of baggy knickers and knee-high argyle socks. As the resident golf pro of our New York City flagship store at 346 Madison Avenue, which features an in-house golf simulator for our customers, Federico Frangiamore gives his styling tips for on the course and in the clubhouse.
Through the
years, the sartorial code of golf has evolved—long gone are the days of baggy
knickers and knee-high argyle socks. As the resident golf pro of our New York
City flagship store at 346 Madison Avenue, which features an in-house golf
simulator for our customers, Federico Frangiamore gives his styling tips for on
the course and in the clubhouse.
The wardrobe
of today’s player mixes performance pieces, perfect for sinking your next
clutch putt, with sophisticated fashion appropriate for mingling at the
clubhouse, as well. Whether you’re suiting up here in the U.S., where
the dress codes are generally more relaxed, or in Frangiamore’s native Italy,
which calls for more traditional and discerning attire, we’ve got you covered.
According to Frangiamore, a short-sleeved polo with either
chinos or shorts is perfect for hitting the green in the U.S. Try this shirt in
classic stripes from our Performance Series, designed for optimal comfort with
moisture-wicking properties and an extended back that stays tucked in during
your swing. These tech pants are designed for activity as well, made from a
breathable fabric with the perfect amount of stretch. And you can never go
wrong with a pair of white sneakers.
Even in warmer climates the temperature can be cooler this
time of year, and Frangiamore’s style on the course reflects that. Try this
long-sleeve polo, also from our Performance Series, in a versatile navy that
works effortlessly with the rest of your on-course wardrobe. And keep this
water-resistant puffer vest on hand to keep you warm and dry if the weather
takes a turn for the worse.
After playing a round, hit the clubhouse in this
easy-yet-sophisticated corduroy ensemble. The pants have a smooth texture,
thanks to the fine 14-wale fabric (“wale” refers to the number of ridges per
inch, with a higher number lending a softer, finer feel), while the jacket is a
textured take on the timeless bomber. The suede boots are an easy option to
dress up or down, and with a matching suede belt, they have a home in just about
anyone’s wardrobe.

An upscale clubhouse requires a more refined look. This turtleneck and sport coat combo has a distinct European sensibility and works as an alternative to the traditional suit and tie (though some clubhouses require this, check the dress code beforehand), bringing a classic, cool vibe to post-game cocktails. Keep your fit close and tailored for a modern and flattering look—the sport coat comes in our slim Milano fit and the wool pants in our slimmest Soho fit. The suede belt and boots still work perfectly here, contrasting the tonal look while highlighting the sport coat’s pattern.
