captivating shade.
Grey has come
a long way. Once a symbol of corporate conformity, as memorialized in Sloan
Wilson’s 1955 novel, The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit, grey has
come into its own as the season’s most distinctive shade. For today’s men, it’s
a bolder shade of grey. Not necessarily louder, but infinitely more
interesting, thanks to novel fabrics, intricate textures and innovative mixing,
which few would have attempted just a few years ago.
FIFTY SHADES
There are, quite literally, hundreds of shades of grey
discernible to the human eye. When combining them, make sure to stick with
variations in the same color family (i.e. choose blue-grey or green-grey).
FEELING GREY
It’s the subtleties of grey that speak the loudest. Here it’s
the mix of textures— a knit striped tie against plaid wool flannel—that
makes the look noteworthy.
A BOLDER SHADE
By anchoring an ensemble in grey shades, it’s actually easier to take other risks, as proved by this look. The other key is scale—the contrast between the check shirt and striped tie above work because of the contrast. The pinstripe is fine enough to avoid being jarring.
